Revolution CD Review
Revolution (www.revrocks.com)
I received the CD "Revolution" in the mail. I unwrapped it and set it on my counter. A visitor came over to my house later that day and saw the CD. He picked it up and said, "Wow, they look Straight Edge" (A term coined by the 1980s hardcore punk band Minor Threat in the song "Straight Edge".)
I'm not labeling Revolution that way of course but it does allow for a good introduction for this review. When you open the CD case you are presented with a picture of the band members (Seven men standing together with the words REVOLUTION above their heads). The CD art just gives you that clearly defined picture of who they are without a lot of words. While the world may define themselves at their best as "Straight Edge", the Revolution CD describes this Band's purpose and reason for existence with Ten songs that would make any secular band take notice.
The CD was recorded at Deerbrook Church & Covenant Recording Studios. I enjoyed the well-mixed recordings and listened to the CD in my headphones. It was excellent. The band is managed by Calf Creek Music (www.calfcreekmusic.com). Now, on with the songs.
You Know His Name is a parody of the "You Know My Name" intro song for the “James Bond” movie "Casino Royale". That was a powerful intro for the CD. Introductions need to be attention getters and Revolution introduces you to Jesus Christ in a very creative way with this song.
I grouped the next 3 songs as Devotional in my mind as they made me think of the letter of First John. We have a God who Reigns, and one of the strengths we have living for Him is knowing He is coming again. If God reigns in your heart, then there will be no room for fear, jealousy, guilt, shame, addictions, or envy. Our God Reigns makes you just want to shout praise for the victory we have in Christ. The battles we face as believers can be overcome, even in the darkest hours. We are looking to victory because the Son Is Coming. This world just doesn't have the final say. Hold on to that truth friends!
When you listen to Living For You, you will think at first you accidently turned on the radio. You will recognize that song. There is nothing I can add to that, it is a great song revolutionized by Revolution!
Walking Away From Love really rocks. I love the lyrics, the duel lead guitars, and the definite reliance on a good drummer to keep it all in sync. You will enjoy all the songs on this release, however my personal favorite of all the songs is In Your Face (written by Jeff Burrow and Gary Goodfellow). It is one of those songs you wish everyone could listen to and hear the lyrics. I loved it.
You get a sense that there will be more to come from Revolution. They are tight, talented and gave me a great dose of spiritual food.
